Where People Live in Nice, France

This collection of 60 photographs united by the theme “Where People Live” presents houses that witness the long history and rich architectural heritage of Nice.

The city still has the remains of Roman structures.

The oldest buildings that are still in operation dating back to the 14th century.

The city of Nice pleases with whole blocks of preserved architectural wonders of the 16th — 18th centuries. These houses continue to be covered with stucco of warm yellow, ocher and red colors, as is customary in tradition, which bears the influence of Turin architecture.

They began to build after 1860 (the date when Nice became part of France) in the French “Haussmann” style. The streets became wider and straighter, and instead of the colorful plastered facades of the old city, gray stone rules the exterior of the newer buildings.

The legacy of the Belle Époque style (the “beautiful era” that dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries) is carried in houses built in the 1930s.

Concrete characterizes the style of houses from 1960—1970.

In the 21st century, the buildings of metal and glass with huge modern terraces.

The coloring of some houses of the city center are in a color called Sardinian red (as the color of the freshly painted building on the cover), which has been protected by law since 1832 and has not changed since then.
